This is an area that seems to be calling out for a cache so I am
happy to oblige. This cache is located a little bit off of the
Finger Lakes Trail (FLT) just outside Bath, NY. Cache container is
a very well hidden ammo box.
From the FLT Conference web site
http://www.fingerlakestrail.org/:
The Finger Lakes Trail System is the main Finger Lakes Trail
(FLT) from the Pennsylvania-New York border in Allegany State Park
to the Long Path in the Catskill Forest Preserve. The main FLT is
562.9 miles long. There also are five branch trails and fourteen
loop trails that extend from the main FLT. These branch and loop
trails currently total 236.0 miles. The Trail System has been and
is being built and maintained by 20 organizational and 38
individual and family trail sponsors. All of these groups and
individuals are volunteers, except for personnel of the U.S. Forest
Service who maintain the 12-mile-long Interloken Trail, one of the
FLT System's branch trails. The Finger Lakes Trail Conference,
Inc., (FLTC) was organized in 1962 to promote and coordinate the
building, maintenance, and protection of the FLT System. The trail
system of over 875 miles is located almost equally on private and
public land. There are currently over 450 private landowners who
allow the trail to be on their land.
The cache is located on private property adjacent to the trail
and is placed with the permission of the property owner. Please
respect the cache location so we don't lose the permission to be
here. Do not cross private property other than access from the
FLT!
Enter this segment of the FLT at one of the designated parking
coordinates. You'll come to a blue-blazed cross-trail segment where
you'll want to search for another unblazed trailhead at N42 22.238
W077 19.274. From this trail head proceed the rest of the way to
the final.
The hike is about 4 miles round trip from the Sand Pit Rd
parking area to GZ and back. There is pretty good elevation change
along the way so wear good shoes and bring water and perhaps a
snack. Along the way you might spot some deer, turkeys, and perhaps
even a bear!
