Geocache Description:

The cache is placed in the grounds of Springhill House & Gardens, Moneymore, Co. Derry. 1 mile from Moneymore on the B18 to Coagh.
The Cache is a small tab lock box and when placed contained the usual items & a Kiss Me I'm Irish Geocoin. Take the Beech Walk from the house towards the Tower. The area around the House is wheelchair friendly, however the Beech Walk may not be. It is a grassy stretch and if the weather has been wet can be quite muddy in places.

This is a Natioal Trust Property and full permission for the cache placemant was granted by the property manager Patricia Law - many thanks to her for that & her enthusiasm!

Springhill is a late 17th century Plantation House built and lived in for 300 years by the Lennox-Coynyngham family, and given to the National Trust in 1957. It is still a family home in feeling with portraits, decorative arts and funiture filling the rooms. It also reflects the distinguished military careers of many of its former occupants. The gun room includes flintocks and bulky blunderbusses which recall 18th century coaching days. In contrast to the array of weaponary, the nursery is a happy jumble of toys, cots, a scaled down piano and a much loved teddy bear which makes it a must for younger visitors. Springhill is also noted for its friendly ghost, reputidly Olivia, whose husband George Lenox-Conyngham commited suicide in 1816. Many of the locals in the surrounding homes have reported seeing Olivia on a regular basis!

Springhill consists of several walks (each approx 20 mins), a full costume Collection, house tours, Giftshop/Tearooms, ample parking, dogs welcome (to be kept on a leash), toilet facilities & a bookshop. Visitors with special requirements are well catered for with access to all amenities and a photo album is provided for those taking the house tour who are unable to climb the stairs.
