Geocache Description:

Forest trails over hills and valleys.

I Robbed the Woods – Emily Dickinson

I robbed the Woods --
The trusting Woods.
The unsuspecting Trees
Brought out their Burs and mosses
My fantasy to please.
I scanned their trinkets curious -- I grasped -- I bore away --
What will the solemn Hemlock --
What will the Oak tree say?

If this poem is any indication, Emily Dickinson had the soul of a geocacher; she enjoyed visiting the woods and taking away trinkets to remind her of her adventures.

Over the past few years, the Cumberland Community Forest Society has ensured the protection of over 150 acres of beautiful forest lands surrounding the Village of Cumberland by purchasing these lands with donations. All sorts of people use these trails – hikers, cyclists, families, birding and nature enthusiasts – and all sorts of creatures call this place ‘home’. On a walk through the Cumberland Community Forest, you might see ravens, deer, raccoons, eagles, frogs… and, on the odd occasion, you’ll see evidence of a bear or two.

If you’d like to learn more about the Cumberland Community Forest Society or the history of this place, you can check out their website at www.cumberlandforest.com.

With geocaches, you don’t need to rob the woods of sticks & stones to take home a treasure from your hike. I hope you enjoy your walk through the forest.
