It's In The Cards #1 Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Freeman!: Celinacannon informed me that this one was AWOL. I've slowly been archiving this series anyway. Time to make room for something new.

Geocache Description:

The first in a six-part series, a traditional cache hidden in Westview Park, a great place to visit and the home of the Grand Lake Mariners of the Great Lakes Summer Collegiate Baseball League.

The first five caches in the series will deal you a poker hand. I will also provide you with some biographical information-- presented first-person-- about a famous figure of the American West. This poker hand and biographical information will reveal the identity of this historical figure. Then, a little bit of internet research is all that will be needed to answer some questions and unlock the coordinates to a mystery cache, the finale of the series.

You are looking for a camo-taped, 2.5 cup Ultra-Latch hidden in the woods at the south end of the park. The entrance to the woods is at N 40 33.399' W 084 35.208'. Parking is available at this spot, and access to the parking lot is at the intersection of Jill Avenue and Hierholzer Street. You will find a card taped to the lid of the container. Please record this card, but do not remove it, as it is very important to this series. This cache was placed with permission from the City of Celina, Department of Parks & Recreation.

I enjoy caches that take you on long walks, take you to interesting places, and teach you something. This series is my attempt to do all of the above. I hope you have as much fun finding these caches as I did placing them.

Now, on with the story.....

I was born in Homer, Illinois in 1837. If you're checking the map, the town has since been renamed Troy Grove, and a monument dedicated in my honor is located here. My father's farm was one of the stops along the Underground Railroad, and it was here, even at a very young age, that I practiced the craft of marksmanship-- for which I would later become very well known-- protecting my home from slave catchers. But my future didn't lie in Homer. I moved to the Kansas Territory in 1855, and three years later, I was elected constable of Monticello Township. This began a career in law enforcement that I would also later be known for.
