Geocache Description:

The cache is located at an abandoned wayside just off highway 47 and east of Horsehead Lake. Enter on Pigeon Road and park in the parking lot. You are looking for a regular green ammo box.

This cache is a dedication to the memory of Francis and Marion Herrmann, my wife’s grandparents, who bought a cabin near here in 1972. Both were extraordinary people who lived extraordinary lives. Marion was a foster mother to hundreds of children in Milwaukee. Francis served our country proudly during the occupation of Japan after World War II. In their later years, they worked at Herrmann’s Highway Foods in downtown Lake Tomahawk. Francis, a life-long music lover, was an avid collector of big-band music and served as guest DJ on a local radio station, WXPR, 1:00 PM every Monday. His white beard meant that he was the perfect Santa Claus in the Lake Tomahawk Christmas parade. Sadly they are not with us any more, but the cabin we love is still in the family.
