Note: as-of 8/11/2009 -- coords changed to the North side of
Clear Lake City Blvd. Due to improvements at the Prairie
Pothole where the EarthCache is located (new seedlings for native
trees, wildflowers seeded, etc.) I did not want to risk any
destruction in the area. Cache was moved to another Prairie
Pothole just across the street.
As to the original area - I love this area. It's a unique area.
Lots of birds, and during spring / fall there can be tons of birds.
At various times the flowers (and butterflies) are incredible. In
fact, placing this cache around 6:30 p.m., I counted over 10
bunnies, a baby opossum, butterflies, dragon flies, and all sorts
of birds and other little critters. It's a great nature hit in the
middle of subdivisions. I'm very glad they decided to preserve
it.
I've lived here for a long time and never knew this was here
until an EarthCache was published (thanks drew8)! Come during the
daytime if you have not been here before. You, too, can pick up an
EarthCache while you're at it GC1JPE9: Prairie Pothole EarthCache.
The signage says the park is closed from 11:00
p.m. until 6:00 a.m. Pets are OK if on a leash.
For both the Cache and the EarthCache I recommend parking at the
parking waypoint below. If you're going for the Cache, cross Clear
Lake City Blvd, follow the sidewalk, and turn right under the power
line easment. For the EarthCache, take the sidwalk to the dock, and
follow the trial to the right (going past the yellow sign). For
both the Cache and the EarthCache there are other routes, depending
on your timing needs.
Nominal thorns. As always, please replace the cache and its
cover just how you found it so it will continue to be there for
others.
Tell us about the wildlife you saw in your log!
Congrats to
Zoothornrollo for FTF!
