The Joseph Moore Museum was established in the 1850s as a teaching collection for Earlham College. It is named after a science and religion professor at Earlham who also served as its president from 1868-1883.

Inside the museum you will find Ta'an (an actual Egyptian mummy), a 15,000 year-old mastodon skeleton, an allosaurus, many fossils, live reptiles, a planetarium and a wealth of natural history displays including 5,000 bird specimens from around the globe. One of the museum's biggest claims to fame is a giant fossil beaver skeleton, the most complete specimen of its type in the world.

The museum is staffed almost entirely by Earlham students who design the exhibits, maintain the collections and lead tours. As a college program, the museum's hours reflect Earlham's academic schedule. It is open Sundays year round from 1-5 and during the academic year (Sept. 15 to Dec. 15 and Jan. 15 to May 1) on Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 1-5. Admission to the museum is free, although donations are welcome.
