Tapapa
Realignment
SH5 Tapapa,eight
kilometres east of Tirau.
Formed to improve the safety of this section of road.
A 3.46 km stretch of road and realignment including a much needed
passing lane.
Completed in March 2006
A new bridge was constructed over the Waimakariri River adjacent to
the site of the first Trout Hatchery built in NZ.
This site was recognised with a small monument installed in an
adjacent carpark,provided for local fishermen.
Take care turning in to Waimakariri Road off S H 5.
Keep an eye on the kids, the road is not a problem,but the river
certainly proves very attractive to children.
An interesting area to explore including the remains of the old
Waimakariri bridge.
Enjoy the clear waters of this great stream.
Its a pity about the surrounds of this area
It was a bit in need of a tidy up when cache was placed.
No rubbish bin here,but took some bottles and cans away
though
Looks like the area may be undergoing some landscaping soon.
