LONG DESCRIPTION:
This is # 4 of a set of caches placed along the coast of Broadstairs, loosely following part of the Viking Cycle Trail. (visit link) Wheelchair users please read encrypted log note.
You are at a very busy Summer holiday location, although in dark, stormy, Winter weather; the bleak nature comes across and it is just as exciting / entertaining. There are lots of things to do at Broadstairs, although many visitors may be drawn here by the connections to Charles Dickens. If you are such a person, you don’t need me to tell you about the history. However, if you are the casual visitor, you may be interested to find that you are at the location of Bleak House (visit link) ; and nearby is the Dickens Museum. (visit link) . The museum is also the location of the Broadstairs’ Tourist Information Office. (Cache #6 is nearby too.) (visit link)

As well as a Dickens festival, Broadstairs hosts a very interesting Folk Week in August. So you may be here to act, play, sing, dance or be merry! (visit link)

A good view can be found at N 51° 21.592 E 001° 26.719 on Fort Road. From here you can see Stone Bay Beach (to the North) and Bleak House itself. There are also a few interesting additions to the perimeter wall such as beautiful shells and rusting anchors. Continuing with the literary theme, you can walk North, at low tide, along the beach to an interesting cache called ’39 steps’. (visit link)

If you walk South down the hill, you come to a fork in the pathway at N 51° 21.563 E 001° 26.690 . Stop here for a moment. The steep descent leads to the harbour. It’s an amazing place when the tide is high and the storms are fierce. Beware the unwary parker! (See photo.) Cache # 5 is in the vicinity. If you continue to follow the perimeter wall around Bleak House you come to a ‘secret’ door and Fort Road opens out to Harbour Street. This is home to the local cinema and also leads to Viking Bay beach – very popular with families due to the variety of attractions and shallow water.

So where is cache # 4?
It is on the perimeter of Bleak House at N 51° 21.600 E 001° 26.699
You do not need to enter Bleak House to find it. (However, you may be interested to take a look inside as there is a Smuggler’s Museum, a few of the rooms are accessible and you can get tea and cake. There is a charge for the tour and refreshments.)

PLEASE BE VERY CAREFUL WHEN SEARCHING & REPLACING as there is a large amount of muggle traffic. Many thanks.

The cache is a micro.
Cache when set contained log book, pencil; a die and monopoly money to play with on Bleak days; and a hedgehog longing to hibernate for FTF.
