Geocache Description:

The Kettleson Hogsback Wildlife Management Area is a state owned area consisting of upland and wetland areas and with boat access and hiking trails open to hunting. This area is a stop on Iowa's Glacial Landmarks Trail.

It has been requested by Department of Natural Resources (DNR) officials that granted permission for this EarthCache that cachers not seek this cache during waterfowl and deer hunting seasons.

This glacial area gets its name for the ridge that separates Marble Lake on the east from Hottes Lake on the west. This ridge is so named because it appears to protrude from the landscape as does the bone between a hogs shoulders. Perhaps formed when glacial sediment was sculpted by ice moving over the bed of a glacier during the retreat of the glaciers here 10-14,000 years ago.
