The Great Plank Road (The Canyon) Traditional Geocache
BlueMoth: It's time for this cache to say goodnight. It was part of a series that no longer exists. It was fun while it lasted, and nice to have a 50 cal ammo can in the city, but all things must end sometime. Thanks to everyone who looked for and found it.

Second in the Great Plank Road series.
NB: I am archiving the Great Plank Road series, but will keep this cache active a little while longer.
Portland was a soggy mess back in 1851. It would take a whole week for a mule team and wagon to slog though Tanner creek canyon from Portland to the western valley. Daniel Lownsdale and William Chapman had the brilliant idea to build a timber plank road. The Great Plank Road was never completed as planned. Jefferson and Canyon roads were paved c.1920 and Hwy 26 was built in 1969.
You are looking for an ammo can. If you think this is hard, be glad you didn't live in Portland in 1851.
This is a nice place to get the feeling of Tanner creek canyon. Try and forget about the freeway and imagine how the old road must have looked.
By car, the cache is accessable only from a West to East approach. You can walk E to W from Goose Hollow, but be very careful of the cars coming off of the 26.
In the cache are laminated photos of Portland and Canyon road in the 1800's, and a panoramic view of Portland drawn in 1879. Please leave them for everyone to enjoy.
For the FTF I have included some swag like a safety blinking light, a road map of Portland, a quartz crystal, other goodies and a glass blue moth.
Unless you are the FTF, please trade even.
Congratulations to ivhs72 & Tom Veil for FTF!!!!
