Geocache Description:

`The Sand Castle, the once opulent Spanish style mansion and nightclub in Egg Harbor Township that hosted Hollywood starts and dignitaries in the late 1930's has been demolished after years of neglect, vandalism and flooding.
The mansion was built in 1928 for Grace Hutton Middleton, the sister of FW Woolworth. Barbara Hutton, Woolworth's granddaughter and heiress who inherited 50 million dollars from her mother, sometimes stayed at the mansion. She died in 1979 practically penniless after battling alcoholism, drug addiction and anorexia.
Sitting on the edge of the bay, just off the Black Horse Pike, with a beautiful view as far a Ocean City, the building crumbled into decay years ago and had West AC residents up in arms about what to do with the property. With peices of the architecture being ripped away, the mansion slowly lost its character and ended up boarded and roped off.
The property, sometimes known as Bahia Vista, was purchased last year in hopes of restoring it to its former glory, but with the ravages of time and constant struggles between community leaders and residents, the result was a death warrant being issued for the house in March. A new building talked about - possibly a year-round restaurant or nightclub.

It is a shame because it was a beautiful, south of the border, style mansion, and every occupant and business had not lasted very long in the place. That is wierd because it really is an awesome place. There were stories that it was haunted and that Satan worshipers or witches have lived there. Someone said that he was in there and there were black mirrors all over the place.

The most recent update on this was 11/4/04 When a woman found 6 beheaded birds while walking along the beach. The 6 large birds ( agoose, a pheasant, chicken and other birds) were grouped in 2's and all were facing in the same direction. The NJ Society of the Prevention and Cruelty to Animals is investigating. SPCA officials said they believe the birds were killed as part of a ritualistic sacrifice. The location is right where the old Huttoon Mansion used to be and there had been a lot of report of devil worship and things like that going on in there. Although the mansion has been torn down, the investigators think this latest animal sacrifice shows the true lure of the mansion is still there!!! What do you think??

To see a picture of this awesome place, you will find it in Weird NJ #19
