Located near the crash site of Thomas 'Tommy' H. Smith's plane, the 'Baby Clipper'.
The cache is a 870 ml lock 'n lock container spray painted camo. It is near the crash site but NOT in the pile of rocks holding up the plaque. Please do not disturb the plaque or any remains of the plane.
Tommy crash landed his small canvas Aeronca 65-C here on May 28th. 1939. The wreckage wasn't spotted by a passing plane until August 25th. 1941. No trace of Tommy Smith was ever found. More detailed information about Tommy Smith and the crash can be found at www.geo-met.com/tommysmith/index.html . Or just do a Google search for Thomas H. Smith plane crash.
The cache can either be reached by driving up a nearby radio tower access road which gets you within 0.65 km or by a more direct route which starts from the Burgeo Road near Burgeogull's Rocky Ridge cache site. That route is a bit longer but after the initial steep climb it is fairly easy walking up a small valley.
This is a special historic spot worth taking the time to visit. Also some great views on the way so bring your camera.
