Woody Woodpecker was a cartoon character created by Walter Lantz
and his wife Gracie Stafford. The story goes that they were on
their honeymoon and a woodpecker was making some incessant noise.
Gracie recommended to Walter that he use that as an inspiration for
a new cartoon character. And so in 1940, Woody Woodpecker was born.
The first film in while he ever appeared was Knock Knock.
That blossomed the character which still lives on today, over 60
years later. Few new cartoons are made today, Woody mostly makes
cameo appearances in other animated movies. The last few story
boards were drafted in the early 2000s. Today, Woody lives on in
our hearts and DVD collections.
Guess who!
