This cache is a 30-cal ammo can hidden in the woods! Yippee! None
of those stinking micros or nanos!
The cache is hidden in the Bona Dea Trails area, a little off the
Serendipity Trail. There is a faint side trail that is a shortcut
between portions of the trail, and the cache is about 70 feet off
this trail. Some light bushwhacking required.
The Summer of 1969 had 3 great events as far as I am concerned:
Apollo 11, Woodstock, and the National Boy Scout Jamboree at
Farragut State Park on Lake Pend Oreille, Idaho! I've placed 2
caches recognizing the other events, so I thought it would be
fitting to recognize the 3rd one as well.
When I traveled to Idaho to attend the Jamboree, I had never been
across the Mississippi River and I had actually only visited 3
states prior to that (Virginia - my home state, North Carolina, and
South Carolina). So traveling to Idaho was a huge adventure for
me.
Along with several hundred other Boy Scouts, I boarded a chartered
Norfolk & Western passenger train in Roanoke, VA, in July of
1969 for the 5-day journey across the country. My favorite memory
of the trip is our overnight stop at Yellowstone National Park,
where I saw snow fall in July for the first and only time in my
life! Unfortunately, all I had to wear was a tee-shirt and shorts!
So I froze!
The Jamboree was attended by tens of thousands of Scouts from all
over the USA and from several other countries. It lasted from July
16 - 22, and I had a blast! Then it was back on the train and back
to home in Virginia. It was my first great adventure in life,
without my parents around, and I will remember it forever!
The cache is hidden in a traditional manner and should not be a
problem to find. Just replace it as you find it so that it doesn't
float away if the water gets high!
