Punkhorn West: Cranberry Trails Multi-Cache

This cache has been archived.

BiPR: I'm sorry to say this cache has to be archived. Sure, I could replace the first stage (gone missing), but the final... well, it looks like someone is doing some aggressive land management around there. The trail is still accessible but there are menacing No trespassing signs around some of the access points that didn't used to be there. Looks like GZ had been bulldozed a bit, too.

I'm sorry. It was a lovely spot and I'd still encourage you to walk the trails. They intersect with Black Duck Cartway, Squantum Path, and Westgate Road in some spot or another.

Geocache Description:

The west side of the Punkhorn Parklands, 800 acres of conservation land in Brewster and Harwich, takes you along quiet forest paths and cranberry bogs. First stage is a micro; final is a Rubbermaid box with a few trades. No bushwhacking required. Park near trailhead at N 41 43.143, W 070 06.978 or at lots on Westgate Rd. Be sure to pull far over so you don't block the road. Mark where you park! Wear bug spray. Total hike from most direct route is about 1.4 miles on trails.

The Punkhorn Parklands are one of Cape Cod's hidden treasures, protecting wildlife habitats including ponds, wooded uplands and former cranberry bogs. Some private farms still operate along the Punkhorn boundaries. Brewster has mapped trails in the northern and central sections, available online at Punkhorn maps

Read about the area and some other Punkhorn geocaches at Trail Hound.

This two-stage multi-cache is a fine walk in the woods, all on established paths. A few short sections of the sandy trail are steep, so it's not recommended for strollers or bikes, although you can bike on the dirt roads to the trailhead at the intersection of Black Duck Cartway and Archie's Cartway. Black Duck Cartway runs between Cranview Road and Westgate Road in Brewster. Please don't try to drive on one-track paths. You can get to parking coordinates from Slough Rd. by taking Cranview to Black Duck Cartway. From Run Hill Rd., follow Westgate to Black Duck.
