Geocache Description:

This cache site is in the Civic Center Courtyard of Riverside City Hall. It is very near a statue of one of Riverside's WW II heroes--Staff Sargent Ysmael R. Villegas who posthumously received the first Medal of Honor given to a Riverside resident.

This is a tiny micro with a log only. Bring your own writing instrument.

Staff Sergeant Ysmael R. Villegas (March 21, 1924-March 20, 1945), born in Casa Blanca, California, was a United States Army soldier who was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor - the United States' highest military decoration for his actions during World War II. On March 20, 1945, Staff Sergeant Ysmael R. Villegas was killed in action during the Battle of Luzon in the Philippines. Villegas single-handedly cleared five enemy foxholes that had his squad pinned down.
