Geocache Description:

MINNESOTA CITY - In honor of the MInnesota City Bridge dedication that will be held Aug. 19, 2009. -- Two years after flood waters tore a path of devastation across southeastern Minnesota, residents here will gather Wednesday and celebrate a sign of normalcy restored: They will dedicate a new bridge.

The old Minnesota City bridge over Garvin Brook was taken out by the flood and residents had to live without a bridge for 20 months. So the 235 residents of this city were in a better position than most to appreciate a new $2.2 million span, which was completed this spring.

When flood waters raged through the area on Aug. 19, 2007, they turned some cities into zones of desolation. Stockton was evacuated, and Rushford sat underwater for a couple of days. Seven people died in the region's flooding.

Early estimates were that as many as 4,500 houses were damaged in the six-county area. Then-President Bush declared six counties in southeastern Minnesota federal disaster areas, and Gov. Tim Pawlenty called the Legislature into special session to pass a $160 million aid package.

This original contents of this small cache include Minnesota City bridge article (please keep with cache), matches, kids bracelet, marble, bouncy ball, bobber, balloon, chuck e cheese tokens, pixar window stickers, hair pony, travel bug and log book and pencil.
