Geocache Description:

Yes, this is wheelchair accessible!!!!

This is a continuation of history lessons around the Seneca Lake region.

During the 1800's, steamboats were the major means of transportation in the region besides horse drawn carriages. There were many lakeside resorts on the lake as well as gathering places for families to meet. There happened to be one on this site. Steamboats would carry as many as five hundred passengers and supplies to these resorts. On any given Saturday or Sunday, you would also see well dressed families boarding these vessels for a leisurely cruise around the lake. However, with the coming of the railways, steamboats soon became unprofitable and these lakeside resorts and tour boats fell by the wayside. The pilings you see here are the remenents of a dock used by the steamboats. Gaze out into the lake and recall what it must have been like in the 1800's. Enjoy.
