McIntyre Cemetery Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

OReviewer: As there's been no cache to find for a long time or has had no owner response for at least 30 days, I'm archiving it to keep it from showing up in search lists, and to prevent it from blocking other cache placements.

Please note that if geocaches are archived by a reviewer or Geocaching HQ for lack of maintenance, they are not eligible for unarchival.

Geocache Description:

Look for the big wooden cross along the road. Parking is available here and the short trail to the cemetery can be accessed here. Cache is a Small camo'd tuppeware container. Small trade items and log. Bring your own pen/cil. It's hard to imagine while standing on the road before heading up the trail to the cemetery, that this whole area was once a thriving mining community of nearly 2000. Just east of the cemetery ran north/south streets- Langdon,Bark,Centre and Bush. There were 2 East/West streets- Carbon and Redfield. At it's peak between 1870-1876 there were 300 houses, a store, church school, office, boot and shoe shop, public hall and a saw mill. A spring fed water pipes and hydrants. In 1873, the mining operations biggest year, nearly 213,000 tons of coal was extracted. I will be posting some maps of the area that shows the town layout and another rough drawing of the mining operation. I also have a map of the cemetery with a listing of the people buried there. This was compiled in 1978 as a Y.C.C project. There are many tidbits of information about this area that I will post. I am extremely interested in any information that cachers may have on the area. Post any memories that you may have of the area.
