Cache #2 of the GREAT FISHING SERIES. Bring fishing tackle for extra fun!
This GREAT FISHING SERIES is intended to present some very good to great fishing locations. Keep in mind, like any
other fisherperson, you will probably get only the very good fishing spots -- we still reserve the right to keep the SUPER fishing holes as a secret. Nevertheless, if you don't bring fishing equipment (you don't have to), you may well be sorry. These locations may require different types of fishing equipment (noted on the cache page); none of the caches will require any specialized equipment.
These caches are intended for everyone, the roads are suitable for any type of vehicle (mid-winter will pose a huge problem for wheeled vehicles), and are located to avoid long hikes and/or water crossings. By and large, these caches are located pretty near "the middle of nowhere", and roads to their access come out somewhere. Getting truly lost should not be an issue.
Buck Bay Creek holds some very good brookies, the occasional brown and/or rainbow trout. It is not a stream that you can jump across. At intervals in the creek, both upstream and downstream are little spillway dams that allow for extra deep holes contributing to enhanced trout habitat. These structures were placed by the USFS.
There are areas along this stream that may allow for flyfishing, mostly though due to blowdowns it is difficult. A light or ultralight rod is desired, artificial or livebait. Waders are strongly recommended.
Access is on Buck Bay Rd. (USFS 2276)
Cache is a blackened/camo plastic jar w/logbook, scribble stick and better than average swag.
