Geocache Description:

A cache dedicated to Sophie who was our dog when I was a child. Sophie was older than my brothers and I and used to snore me to sleep every night. This was one of her favourite places to go swimming.

Thomsons Bush is one of the few remnants of the kahikatea dominated swamp forest that once covered much of the Southland area. The native vegetation in Thomsons Bush is dominated by kahikatea, matai and ribbonwood.
Over 3km of well-graded walking tracks wind through Thomsons Bush on both sides of Queens Drive. There is also a small playground for the younger ones. Oh, and ducks (I love caches with ducks nearby!).

The cache is hidden about 100m from the playground. You could push a stroller to it, but not a wheelchair. Watch the grass, it is swampy when wet - as I discovered while placing the cache. You are looking for a large snaplock container covered in black tape. Please push back in, so it does not get discovered! It holds the usual log, pencil, sharpener and a variety of swaps.
