Geocache Description:

Cache #6 of the GREAT FISHING SERIES. Bring fishing tackle for extra fun!
NOTE: Coordinates are averaged, due to heavy canopy.

This GREAT FISHING SERIES is intended to present some very good to great fishing locations. Keep in mind, like any other fisherperson, you will probably get only the very good fishing spots -- we still reserve the right to keep the SUPER fishing holes as a secret. Nevertheless, if you don't bring fishing equipment (you don't have to), you may well be sorry. These locations may require different types of fishing equipment (noted on the cache page); none of the caches will require any specialized equipment.
These caches are intended for everyone, the roads are suitable for any type of vehicle (mid-winter will pose a huge problem for wheeled vehicles), and are located to avoid long hikes and/or water crossings. By and large, these caches are located pretty near "the middle of nowhere", and roads to their access come out somewhere. Getting truly lost should not be an issue.

Access is best gained from Hwy M-28, Woodland Ave., then bearing slightly left onto USFS road Woodland curves sharply right. This is a gorgeous drive during autumn colors. At times during the drive you may feel as though you are driving through a tunnel, a tunnel of forest canopy.

Parking is limited to pulling off the road best as you can (west side of roadway is best). There are more caches further in the direction you are travelling. If you wish to turn about, there is a fairly decent spot about 1/4 mile further south.

Joel creek, though small, has some nice brook trout. Darn nice ones too, if you can find their hiding holes. An unweighted nightcrawler on a single, small hook works best tossed with an ultralight rod. Waders or hipboots are recommended.

The cache is a medium LNL, darkened for camo. It contains the standard logbook and writing implement plus an assortment of nice swag.

Be extra quiet in your approach, lots of wildlife here. Mink, deer and fishers are quite common. The occasional black bear is always fun to spot in the woods. If it is a sow with cubs, she will "woof" and disappear in an instant when she realizes you are there. Rarely, moose are spotted in this area. They too, melt into the woods awfully fast even though they don't move fast. If these larger critters put you on edge, then don't be quiet -- talk and walk normal, they'll be gone long before they see you or you them.
