The park has a rich community of Atlantic coastal plain species. These species are here because at one time, much of present day Ontario was submerged beneath numerous glacial and post-glacial lakes. When the ancient Lake Algonquin receded, it left a remnant community of Atlantic Ocean shoreline plants behind. The park also contains an inland section of displaced Georgian Bay shoreline.
The park covers only 684 hectares and does not have any facilities for overnight stays but does have some hiking and cross country skiing trails that circle the lake where you can see some old and historic buildings along the shoreline. Or bring your canoe or kayak to enjoy Hardy Lake.
You can access the park, which is near the town of Torrance, by taking Hwy 169 to East Bay Road to Hardy Lake Road.
Parking is available however there are no visitor facilities. The park provides hiking trails maintained by the Muskoka Lakes Trails Association and canoeing opportunities exist. Camping is not permitted.
Head to the posted co-ordinates for an off road parking area, otherwise, there are posted parking zones on Highway 169 south of Torrance. Cache is located just beside the parking area, outside of the park boundaries, for those who do not want to venture into the park.
