Market Square Park

Size: 28626.43m2
Location: Haydn Bunton Drive, Roberts Road, SUBIACO

Market Square Park was originally designed for use as a market square in 1922. The Market Square Park that we know today was landscaped and replanted in 2000 as part of the Subiaco Redevelopment Authority development and is located adjacent to Subiaco Oval.

The Park is unique, having been designed as a complete entity with layout and planning considered. The park, although called Market Square is not actually a square. It has a close proximity to Station Square and the Subiaco Train Station. The large grassed area is used as an extra parking space for Subiaco Oval when large events take place.

Market Square Park is well used for recreation, rest and relaxation; as a children’s play area; for picnics and barbecues; and is well utilised as a skate park. There is a play area for children, which includes a combination unit, with soft fall, that is shaded by tensioned white UV protected sails. The park also features a well utlised skateboard area.

The park has been landscaped with structured garden beds, and planter boxes/hedge frame following footpaths. Garden beds, shrubs and ground cover plants divide areas and provide interesting areas to look at whilst sitting.

Park furniture is convenient for use when picnicking, with four large, open structure shelters located nearby to the barbecues, and a light, airy structured gazebo, centrally located within the Square. The park also features public artwork in the form of a brass and limestone sculpture located within a circular nodal point of the landscape.
