Geocache Description:

A fairly flat straight route. Could be muddy after rain. Could be loads of nettles in the summer. No shorts! take a wacking stick!

Parking is at N52. 20 253 E 000 07 120.

The cache is 0.75 miles from the parking. 4X4 vehicles can drive to the exact spot between April 30th and 1st October or when the barrier is up.

Aldreth is a small village on a gravel ‘island’ in the fens of East Cambridgeshire. Although of no great height, the ‘island’ provides a dry site for the village in times of flood, and is apparent from some distance across the fen.

Although the tarmac road into Aldreth becomes effectively a dead-end, the historic Aldreth Causeway links the village over the Old West River at High Bridge to South Cambridgeshire.

Medieval Chronicles tell lurid stories of pitched battles, drowning knights, fired reed beds, and skeletons in rusty armour buried in the marshes.

More information about the causeway and the river can be obtained from the two notice boards near the cache to the South and North of the bridge.

The cache can be reached without going through any nettles although a little scramble is necessary.Best approached from the East side.
