On the summit of Widdale Fell near Little Knoutberry Hill
The cache is near the mid point of this splendidly rugged high plateau. There is no permanent path across the summit but the going is made easier in places by an emerging quad track used to access a line of grouse buts.
On the route from the cache to the summit of Great Knoutberry Hill two tarns are passed, unusual features at a height of over 630m.
The views from the ridge are excellent, particularly of Ingleborough and Pen y ghent, but the Howgills and the northern fells are equally visible.
At the time of placing there were no other active caches on the hill although we subsequently found the remnants of a cache near the trig point at the western end of the fell. Perhaps someone will reactivate this.
