Geocache Description:

This the fifth cache in my finite mathematical series. I am a math teacher by day. I thought a cache series dedicated to math would be a good way to educate the public.

A root is a mathematical operation. Most people know about square roots, but they can be of any order (2, 3, 4, 5, etc.). A square root is the inverse operation (opposite) of squaring a number. For example 2 squared is 4, so the square root of 4 is 2. Actually for even roots, the answer will be plus or minus because when you multiple an even number of negatives you get a positive product. The perfect squares up to 200  are: 1, 4, 9, 16, 25, 36, 49, 64, 81, 100, 121, 144, 169, and 196.

If you take the square root of a nonperfect square you'll get an irrational number (a non-repeating, non-terminating decimal). You can take the square root of a negative number, but it results in imaginary numbers (but we'll talk about that later). The ancient Eqyptians, and Babylonians worked with square roots and irrational numbers resulting from them back around 1600 BC. We continue to use technology to refine irrational numbers resulting from roots in order to be more precise in engineering.

The root of all evil is a camoed bison tube located by a nice stream and pond off the Quail Valley Trail in the Harbison area.

Watch for passing muggles.
