Geocache Description:

This cache was placed with the use of kayaks. I suppose you could walk the river bank to the island but that is a long walk.

Our adventure started on Stillwater River at Frederick Garland Road just northeast of Union, Ohio. As we slide our kayaks down the hill from the road we noticed an unusual sight. A strange couple were paddling their canoe like crazy down the river, not looking around or answering our calls. They looked familiar but were too far away to get a good look. We wondered to ourselves what this could be about. They must have had something important in mind.

We shrugged it off and proceeded dragging our kayak toward the river. We launched and paddled southward. At about one half of a mile down river we were at an eerie looking island. It had a faint haze covering its lower surface. With a little reluctance we pulled ashore. As we forged our way along the banks of the island we heard people talking. We fell to the ground and crept closer so that we could get a better view of what was going on.

The closer we got the more unusual the conversation became. This is not English Colleen whispered to me. Where are these people from? What are they doing here? We will have to confront them to get our questions answered.

We jumped out of our hiding place and approached them. The closer we got to them we realized we knew them. Its Frank and Toni! “Hey, what are you guys doing out here on the island?” Colleen inquired. “And what was that weird chanting we heard from you as we approached this area?”

Toni blurted out that they had come to place a cache on Alcatraz Island further down the river. She went on to tell us the chanting was actually ranting and raving (cursing) from Frank because of the water being so low in the river, which makes it hard to navigate the shallow rapids and rock dams. With that they said they had to continue with their quest to Alcatraz Island. After this brief rendezvous we bid them farewell and off they paddled toward their destination.

Colleen and I talked about Frank and Toni placing a cache on the river and thought that would be a good idea for us also. I thought this would be as good a place as any. So a cache was place on this island with hopes that someday someone will venture here to discover it.
