This cache has been archived.

Wis Kid: As there's been no cache to find for months, I'm archiving it to keep it from continually showing up in search lists, and to prevent it from blocking other cache placements. If you wish to repair/replace the cache sometime in the future, just contact us (by email), and assuming it meets the guidelines, we'll be happy to unarchive it.

Geocache Description:

Along the shore of Rainbow Flowage.

I have decided to place a cache in this area, because I have celebrated my one year anniversary since I broke my ankle here. I decided this would be a neat idea for a cache because I want to hear your craziest or most interesting story while geocaching.

So here is my adventure:

My boyfriend, Rob and I were in this area twice, first time to find a lost cell phone and second to find the geocache. I noticed that my cell phone was not in my pocket, so we spend quite some time trying to find it, back tracking our steps with the GPS, we had even tried using Rob's phone to call my phone, but we never heard it ring. Finally, just before giving up, I shouted "Found it!' Oh the joy, but it would only be short lived.

We then proceeded to make our way back out to the car. We figured walking on the beach would be easier than bush-whacking it through the woods. Oh, were we wrong. We were probably 1/10 of a mile from the car, with it in sight, when I screamed out in shear pain, as my ankle snapped in half while stepping on a fallen tree along the beach. Finally after contemplating what to do, we became sensible and decided to dial 911. Not being from the area, Rob wasn't exactly sure how to explain our location. Lucky we had the GPS.

Waited about 10 minutes for the ambulance to arrive. I was strapped to a stretcher, and hauled through the woods on an all-terrain cart. The rescue workers were great, took good care of me.

After the surgery, we found out I lost about an inch of bone in the tibia and dislocated the fibia. I did a doozy! I had to have about 15 screws/pins and two plates installed. I had them removed in March of 2009 and I am a much happier person & I'm back out geocaching, as I have made my way back to this spot.

Be forewarned to watch your steps while geocaching. :)

So let me know your stories/or any pictures you would like to share.
