Geocache Description:

Laugavegurinn, the most popular Icelandic hiking trail.

Laugavegurinn is one of the most beautiful hiking trails in Iceland. It will take you to colourful mountains, hot springs, glaciers, blue lakes, incredibly green hyaloclastic ridges contrasting with black sand deserts.

The whole track from Landmannalaugar to Þórsmörk is about 55 km long and is usually divided in four days. You can find the basic information on the hike at The Iceland Touring Association which maintains the trail and most of the huts and camping places in the area.

The trail is only passable during high summer season from late June to early September.

You have to wade a few rivers on this trail as only few rivers were bridged.

This cache is hidden very close the most interesting bridges on the way, the bridge at Syðri-Emstruá about 2 km SE from the hut at Emstrur.

The GPS reception can be less accurate in the canyon so I recommend using the photo hint below.
