Geocache Description:

Your trip will end at the top of a hill and at an elevation of almost 4800 feet. There will be a bit of a hike involved.

My Childhood, a cache series. Part I

When I started Geocaching, I read that people will place caches in places that mean something to them. And instantly this place came to mind. The cache is at the top of what we would call simply "The Hill."
(If you do know the actual name of this hill I would be interested to know.)

I grew up a child of the 80's in Sparks NV. During the lazy days of summer myself and other neighborhood boys would climb "The Hill" multiple times a week. I have no idea what I though we would find. I think we thought of ourselves as "The Goonies" and on one of our outings we would find buried treasure.
(For this reason placing a cache here made even more sense.)

There are abandoned mine shafts, however they have all been sealed off or the shafts have collapsed. When I was kid however not all of them had been sealed. None of them were very deep no longer than 200 feet. My mother would forbid me to climb "The Hill" she was positive I would be in one of the shafts and it would collapse. But like most 12 year olds, I would climb it anyway.

There are many ways to access this hill. I personally parked and walked from the bend on Rocky Ridge Ct. From truck to the cache took me 15 minutes. The area is not accessible for trucks or 4WD.

The cache container is a camoed ammo box. Once you reach the summit or the cache, stop and enjoy the view. As a kid when I looked to the north, there was nothing but range land and houses spread far and wide, what a difference it is now. My parents still live in the house I grew up in, at the base of the hill to the south. Hey you can see their house from here!

I hope you enjoy the hike and the view.

As a bonus if you walk to the summit you can find a benchmark. However the benchmark has been extremely damaged and is unreadable.

*PLEASE NOTE. I PLACED THIS CACHE USING AN IPHONE.* I walked away from the location in all 4 directions then back to the site and was able to get the location down to around 5-10 feet. If my coordinates are too far off and you have better coordinates let me know and I will be happy to update.
