Geocache Description:

A small camo covered metal box. Contains only a log and small pencil. Held on by magnets. You can drive right up to it. May not be handicap accessible because it is a grassy area.

Probably the event of the greatest national significance in Vernon County was the raid by the notorious John Brown and 25 henchmen on three farms in this area, on the snowy night of Dec. 20, 1858. Eleven slaves were taken, along with thousands of dollars' worth of personal and farm property, and an elderly farmer was shot down.
James Lawrence, the deceased owner of the largest of the targeted farms, was the first person to be buried in the Lawrence Cemetary.
The raid was a "trial run" for the more famous Harpers Ferry raid, less than a year later; and it further embittered western Missourians against Kansans and Northerners in general.
There is a Bushwhacker Museum Magnet in the cache for FTF.
Approval has been granted by Missouri Parks to place this cache.
