Geocache Description:

Undiscovered Naxos #3

Naxos is a big island. You have to rent a car, motorbike or bicycle if you plan on exploring the island, or have your own. Naxos is also truly blessed with some of the most beautiful beaches in all of Greece.
Long stretches of golden sand and the most brilliant colors of blue sea you will ever see. But except the beaches Naxos has many other beautiful places to see.
So, I decide to make a new series of caches in Naxos Island and spot some unknown places to those who visit the island and want not only to visit the known and cosmopolitan parts of it.
This is the third one of this series. The cache will bring you in the area of Agios Sozon, a small country church which lies about 6 km from Agiassos, one not very known beach of Naxos.
To Agiassos you can go either from the main road from Xora to Filoti and after the village Sagri you will find the crossroad to Agiassos and you will see the tower of Bazaios and the archaeological area of Gyroulas or from the coastline road passing from Kastraki, Pyrgaki and then follow the good paved dirty road to Agiassos.
The route until Agiassos bay is rather easy, the hard route begin from Agiassos to the cache area and is almost 6Km of distance. You can go there with a 4 wheel drive car, with a bicycle, with a mountain bike or on foot, it's up to you. You have to take the coastline road that go arround of Naxos island from Agiassos beach to Kalantos bay. On your route you will find closed gates, open them to pass through but please close them behind you for not allow the goats to go out of their regions.
All the route from Agiassos to the cache area is parallel to the coastline and you will see a wild but nice part of Naxos island.
