Subsequent to our series of 5 caches featuring "The Hamlets of
Center Hastings" we are starting a new series, "The Bridges of
Center Hastings." Most of them will be on or near bridges crossing
the Moira River.
The Moira River meanders 98 km from its source near Sharbot Lake to
its mouth in Belleville where it empties into the Bay of Quinte.
The Skootamatta, Clare and Black Rivers are tributaries joining the
Moira near Tweed, Ontario. The river is named after Sir Francis
Rawdon-Hastings, Earl of Moira, who was a British peer,
politician, military officer and Governor-General of India. During
the American Revolutionary War he saw military action at
Lexington/Concord, Bunker Hill & the seige of Charleston S.C.
His name is also associated with Hastings County & the
townships of Stirling-Rawdon & Huntington.
Oddly enough, he never set foot in Canada to the best of our
knowledge.
Please park at the south end of the bridge well off the road.
Single lane bridge, please use caution.
There is a FTF certificate & gift & room for small
trades.
