Sagan handlar om tre bockar, lilla bocken Bruse, mellanbocken Bruse och stora bocken Bruse. Dessa beslutar sig för att gå till sätern för att äta sig tjocka och feta. Då måste de korsa en fors, genom att gå över en bro. Under bron bor ett Troll, som störs av bockarnas trippande, Han hotar då med att äta upp lilla bocken Bruse och sedan mellanbocken Bruse. Dock lyckas lilla och mellanbocken Bruse ta sig förbi, genom att fresta trollet med nästkommande bock, som är mycket större och fetare än de själva. Sagt och gjort får varje bock passera. När det blir den stora bocken Bruses tur, är denne så stor och stark att den kan stånga trollet ner i forsen och passera ändå. (källa Wikipedia)

The story of Three Billy Goats Gruff is a Norwegian fairy tale.
There is no more grass to eat so the goat brothers decide to cross the river, to a meadow on the other side of a stream in order to eat and get fat. To do so, they must first cross a bridge, under which lives a fearsome troll who eats anyone who passes that way. The smallest billy goat is the first to cross and is immediately stopped by the troll who threatens to eat him! The little goat cleverly convinces him to wait for the bigger billy goat to come across because he is larger and will make bigger meal. The greedy troll agrees and lets the smallest goat cross. The middle goat sees that the youngest one has crossed and reaches the conclusion that the bridge must be safe after all, but he is also stopped by the troll and given the same threat. The second billy goat is allowed to cross as well after he tells the troll to wait for the biggest billy goat because he will have the most meat of them all. The third billy goat then gets on the bridge, and is stopped by the hungry troll. When the troll gets up on the bridge however, the third billy goat is so big, that he easily throws the troll into the stream with his horns and crosses the bridge. The goats happily the meadows.
