The Otselic River is about 40 miles in length. The name came from the Indian word for the wild plums that grew along the river. It forms the Whitney Point Reservoir. The reservoir averages 10 feet deep and the maximum depth is 25 feet. The Otselic River feeds and drains the Whitney Point Reservoir.
Paddling on the Otselic from Willet to the Whitney Point Reservoir can be a fun stream to paddle when the water levels are good. The best time is in the spring when there is sufficient water. You may want to check the water level before you plan your trip. It is a lovely paddle with some nice scenery.
The cache is a match box container and is reached by paddling from the reservoir to the area near where the waters from the Otselic flow. In high water it may be hard to reach, low water could be a problem too and you may have to work your way around some shallow areas. You will need to get out of your canoe/kayak so you may want to be prepared for some possibly muddy areas. You may see some interesting wildlife along the way and you are sure to see and hear many birds. This area gets some high flooding when the river is running high. You will see signs of the grasses that get caught in the tree limbs and the downed tree roots that are up and exposed along the banks, There are some fun places to explore in this area.
The container is taped to it's spot so you only need to unscrew the top. Please take your time and replace the cap securely. -- Thanks. -- And, of course, you will need to take your own writing utensil.
