Geocache Description:

Sited by the roadside, there is no pavement by the cache so please take care. There is a playground nearby and the town walls walk so this area can be busy, especially on sunny days and at weekends. So please use stealth when retrieving and replacing the cache.

The Bulwark was a defensive construction of raised earth, ditches and wooden palisades that surrounded the landward sides of Sandwich town. It was constructed by order of Edward IV in 1385 in response to continued raids upon the town by the Vikings and French. The town’s defences were maintained through raising taxes on the goods that were imported through the port. Alas these defences were breached in 1457 and the town was raised to the ground.

Behind the information board on the far side of the Bulwark is the fence that surrounds the Salutation Gardens, designed by Sir Edwin Lutyens in 1912. These can be visited using the entrance at the Town Quay, but the fence here is low enough that you can get a pretty good view of the vivid flora display.

You are looking for a cylindrical tube 4x1 inches.
