puolellani. Kuulin ihmisten puhuvan ja nauravan jossain
lähettyvillä. Haistoin vahvan ja kitkerän tuoksun, kuin virtsan.
Avasin vasemman silmäni.Oli melko pimeää, mikä oli hyvä asia.
Aukaisin toisenkin silmäni, mutten nähnyt juuri muuta kuin tumman
taivaan päälläni. Käänsin päätäni hieman liian nopeasti ja maailma
alkoi heti pyöriä ympärilläni. Suljin nopeasti silmäni ja odotin
vointini parantumista. Avasin silmäni uudelleen ja käänsin jälleen
päätäni, hitaammin tällä kertaa tosin. Silmäilin ympäristöäni
hetken ja todellakin makasin soralla kuivien lehtien keskellä ja
vasemmalla puolellani kasvoi suurehko koivu. Paikka näytti kovasti
parkkipaikalta. Huokaisten suljin silmäni taas ja keskityin kovasti
ajattelemaan ja muistamaan...
Olin ollut vierailemassa ystäväni luona Sysmässä. Oliko se
eilen?
ainakaan en luule Elviksen koskaan laulaneen oikeasti "Kersantti
Pomarkun tienoilla silloin. No, meillä oli paljon samaa lajia
jäljellä, joten ei syytä huoleen...
Be happy... don't worry... ja mikäs on ollessa huoleton ja
onnellinen, kun puoli tusinaa kirkkaan vihreitä absinttikeijua
pitää sinulle seuraa! Ne olivat niin kauniita ja ne tanssivat
minulle koko matkan Ositunkulmasta Sysmään. Olimme palaamassa
aivan liian pian tuttu turtumus otti sijansa jälleen. Ehdin juuri
sainkin Elviksen taas uniini. No, aina ei voi voittaa, eihän?
Viimeisin etappimme oli vienyt meidät aina Utsjoelle saakka,
josta olimme viimeiset tunnit olleet palailemassa hiljakseen
etelään päin. Oulu, Pyhäjärvi, Viitasaari... paikannimiä jotka
painuivat nopeasti unholaan, kunnes saavuimme Jyväskylään. Pidimem
tauon Keljonkankaan ABC:llä ja nautittuani hampurilaisaterian ja
sikspäkin kaljaa päätin, että tämä riittäisi osaltani. En jatkaisi
enää kilometriäkään ystäväni ja tämän mielipuolisen
autonkuljettajaserkkunsa seurassa. Ennen vaikka kävelisin
kotiin...

[EN] Waking up had never been this miserable in my life.
I felt cold and nauseous and I had the mother of all headaches
banging my head numb. I did not dare to open my eyes right away but
tried to study my surroundings with my other, even somewhat dull
senses. I felt cold and hard gravel under me, something that felt
like dry leaves and something hard and tall on my left. I heard
people talking and laughin not so far away. I did smell strong and
bitter scent, like urine. I opened my left eye. It was quite dark,
which was good. I opened my other eye too, but did not see much
else than the dark sky above me. I turned me head a bit too quickly
and immediately the world started to whirl around me. I quickly
closed my eyes again and waited until I felt better. Again I did
open my eyes and turned my head, bit slower, this time. I studied
my surroundings for a while and indeed I was lying on gravel in
middle of dried leaves and there was a birch growing tall on my
left. The general surroundings looked really much like a parking
lot. With a sigh I closed my eyes and started think hard and tried
to remember...
I had been visiting a friend who lived in Sysmä. Was it
yesterday? Or a week ago... I could not tell. It had been a
celebration of some kind... yes, I had been able to solve out a
really tricky mystery by Team Pitkis and it had required some wine
before I had been able to come up with the solution. Accidently my
friend had been visiting in nearby on business trip and happened to
call me. One thing led to another and I found myself on the way to
Sysmä with him and enjoying few beers during the way. Right after
we get to his place, he opened a beer and took couple of long swigs
from a vodka bottle, just to catch up with me. We drank couple of
beers while waiting the sauna to warm up, some more in the sauna
and quite few after the sauna with ice cold vodka. At some time
during the evening, we felt like having a little roadtrip and my
friend made a call to his cousin who had just received his driving
license. Not long after that we found ourselces sitting in a old
Toyota Corolla, speeding through the night. Sysmä - Palvala -
Särkilahti... names in the signposts kept flashing by. The last
thing I remember from that night was a sign telling that we were
five kilometers from Tammijärvi. Oh, that and the fact that someone
kept singing "Kersantti Karoliina" over and over again. Then
someone turned the switch off in my head and I passed out. Which
was not a bad thing, considering that the singer wasn't any
good...
I woke up from back seat of the Corolla and was given a half a
bottle of whiskey even before I had a change to say anything. I sat
up, took a nice sip of whiskey and looked at a wonderful sight from
the side window. There was a sled ridden by a reindeer, pulled by a
dozen santa clauses and they were passing by our car. I heard the
reindeer yelling us "Thank you for visiting Vikajärvi and have a
nice day!" before taking off and flying to where ever reindeer
pulled by flying santa clauses tend to fly. Like I cared. I passed
the bottle back to my friend and turnd to ask from his cousin where
we were heading to, when I noticed that it wasn't the cousin at
all, but Elvis. He told that our destination would be Kemijärvi via
Ketola and started to sing some of his greatest hits. I think that
I was really dreaming, at least I don't think that Elvis used to
sing "Kersantti Karoliina" no matter how many times he kept telling
that to me...
I woke up. For real this time. I was sweating all over and
feeling really jumpy. All the sudden I felt something warm and
hairy crawling under my blanket and I leapt with a scream out of
the bed, banging my head on the night table in the process. The
racket woke up my friend, the owner of the warm and hairy thing...
his leg, that is. It did seem that we have had a warm and cuddly
night together. Yack. While getting something to sooth my nerves
from the minibar I noticed a card on teh table telling that we were
in Hotel Tiiranlinna. It made me wonder for a while how we had
ended up to Raahe, but then I thought that it doesn't really matter
as long as there would be Alko nearby. My friend got up too and
told that his cousin should be back any minute from the breakfast,
after which we would be hitting the road again towards Vihanti,
Pulkkila, Pyhäntä and finally Iisalmi. That made me wonder if the
"Oluset" festivals were over already... Well, does't matter really
I though and opened a new one.
I'm not sure if it was day or two in between, but the next thing
I was sure about was that we were in Pori. Or rather, we just left
Pori with trunk full of booze. It had been a rough start and we had
already consumed a half a bottle of absinth even before we managed
to get to Kankaanpää. I'd say we were rather somewhere around
Pormarkku by then. Well, we had plenty of the same stuff still, so
no worries...
Be happy... don't worry... And what was it not to worry and be
happy, while half a dozen brigh green absinth faeries were keeping
me a company! They were so pretty and they kept dancing all the way
from Ositunkulma to Sysmä. We were getting back to home... or back
to my friends home at least. And they kept singing... but all tehy
knew was "Kersantti Karoliina" and that was getting on my nerves
really... Actually I got so pissed up that I decided to wake up
from my hallucinations!
And look... we were not returning back to home, but driving
through the night in some place totally different... The road and
landscape around us seemed to be familar though. And so it was, I'd
recognize this route any time. I had drove this way so many time
before, starting from Pirkkala, passing by Ylöjärvi and
Kyröskoski... continuing all the way to Vaasa. My clear moment
wasn't oo long though and the all too familar slumber took place
again. I had just enough time to wish to continue the dream about
the absinth faeries, but instead I got Elvis again. Well, you can't
win all the time, can you?
Our last stage had taken us all the way to Utsjoki, where from
we had been slowly returning back to south last hours. Oulu,
Pyhäjärvi, Viitasaari... names of the places soon forgotten before
we finally arrvied to Jyväskylä. We had a break on ABC Keljonkangas
and after having a hamburger meal and sixpack of cold beer I had
decided that I had enough. I would not continue one single
kilometer with my friiend and his crazy car driving cousin. I'd
rather walk back to home...
That was actually my most recent memory I had before waking up
just few minutes ago. I had no idea how I have managed to get to
this place, which started to seem more on more familar in my eyes.
I rummaged through my pockets... phone, vallet, even keys to my
home were all there. Moaning I stood up and considered my next
move. I still felt horrible, but I started towards the noices and
laughter nearby. And just like I thought, ther was an all too
familar pub and terrace right behind the corner! I have had such a
horrible week (or was it even two...) that I would never ever let
me go through such thing again! But before that... waitress, could
I have one big beer and a scotch on the rocks, please? When I sat
to the table I noticed that I had lost something afterall, but it
didn't make any difference now really as I got my ice cold beer to
my hands... it may lie on the parking lot as far as I cared!
