Geocache Description:

Please also note that in spite of "Private" notices on the drive to the farm, as many other cachers have noted, you can get to the location without going on private land and there is stile to the left of the river as you look at it.

If you’ve got this far around Iceland then the chances are you’ll be starting to forget which waterfalls you’ve seen and which one was which…… but still they keep coming!!

Here’s a beautiful waterfall that would have a village full of tourist infrastructure at its foot if it was somewhere in the UK but here in Iceland it is just one of so many that it doesn’t even feature on my map! There’s just a solitary farm near its base and a lone searchlight to make it visible to night time passers-by. Well now it has a geocache so maybe more people will stop and take notice of it.

To get to the cache you need to park at the turn off immediately at the bridge as the next turning is a private road to the farm. When placed was possible to walk up the left bank of the river and then there was a choice of 2 routes:-
You can go over the ladder stile and a path then leads to the searchlight from which you drop down steeply to the cache.
Alternatively, and I think it’s more fun, carry on the end of the riverside track and cross over the fence to keep animals from the river where it is not barbed wire. You then have to bend low to pass under a huge boulder and then scramble over rocks up to the cache, which is on the left hand side as you look at the waterfall.

The initial contents were a log book, a pencil, a crayon, a dolphin brooch, a reflective elephant clip-on, an old Benny (from Top Cat) key tag, a rock with a plant fossil from Spitsbergen, a West Bromwich Mountaineering Club calling card and the usual laminated Geocaching information sheet.

In summer 2013 there were a series of logs suggesting it was on private land and it appears that visitors might discover ropes with "private" signs on both sides of the bridge. However, I am grateful for cogmik's confirmation that it is possible to access the stile and cache without going on private land.
