Geocache Description:

Port an Dúin

Port an Dúin is a quiet harbour on the East side of Tory Island. At the moment it is only used on rare occasions by some local fishermen, but it was used as the main landing pier by the Tory Island Ferry - An Tor Mór during the 1990's when the main pier at Camusmore was being extended.

The cliffs opposite the pier are home to the largest Puffin colony in Donegal (over 1000 birds) as well as many other seabirds.

Nearby is the site of the ancient Caisleán Thoraí

Getting to Tory

The Tory Ferry - An Tor Mór leaves Bunbeg Pier for Tory Tuesday - Thursday and Saturday and Sunday at 8.50am and on Monday and Friday at 7.40am. Sailings from Magheroarty to Tory leave at 11.30am and 5.00pm daily.

Return sailing from Tory to Magheroarty Tuesday - Thursday and Saturday - Sunday 10.30am and Monday and Friday at 9.30am, daily sailing at 4pm and to Bunbeg daily at 5.50pm.

All sailings weather permitting. All Ferry information from 074 9531340.

The Cache

The cache is a magnetic nano. Please bring your own pen or pencil to initial the logsheet.

Please take care at the final descent to the pier itself as the path contains loose gravel and is quite steep.
