Le dune di Campomarino Questo tratto di marina conserva ancora
le maestose dune e i luoghi fertili. Molto dell'apprezzata e antica
bellezza della marina di Maruggio è ancora oggi da attribuirsi alle
rigogliose dune ricche di vegetazione varia che si spingono fino a
lambire l'acqua del mare dai sette colori. E’ ancora presente
la tipica vegetazione costituita da ginepri marini), da timo,
rosmarino e grande quantità di sparto e lentischio. La "Duna di
Campomarino è inserita nel censimento nazionale dei biotipi di
rilevante interesse vegetazionale meritevole di conservazione in
Italia" [Lorenzoni 1971, 1980]. "Questo tratto di costa…
presenta, tra l'altro, una particolarità geofisica che la rende
peculiarissima come terreno biologico: l'esposizione, che è a pieno
Sud, e si tratta dell'unico lungo tratto di spiaggia italiana che
sia esposto perfettamente a Sud, condizione questa che ne fa un
terreno ricettore di biotipi peculiari irriproducibili altrove. Un
recente studio ne ha evidenziato gli aspetti geomorfologici,
botanici e faunistici. “Aspetti geomorfologici - Dalla linea
di riva verso l’entroterra possono riconoscersi la spiaggia
sabbiosa, la costa rocciosa, spesso a falesia, i cordoni dunali
medio-olocenico (~7500-6000 anni fa) e greco-romano (~3300-2000
anni fa) fossili e la connessa area retrodunale. Le spiagge
sabbiose rappresentano la quasi totalità del litorale; quelle
rocciose, invece, caratterizzano solo brevi tratti posti per lo più
nell’area più occidentale. Le spiagge sono bordate verso
l’interno da una falesia (costa alta ed in forte pendenza che
si mantiene più o meno ripida ed arretra progressivamente sotto
l’azione del moto ondoso) prodotta dall’azione erosiva
del moto ondoso. In alcuni tratti il piede della falesia è posto
direttamente sulla linea di riva. Dal punto di vista litologico, le
rocce che costituiscono le dune fossili sono biocalcareniti, cioè
rocce sedimentarie costituite da frammenti (clasti) di roccia e di
gusci di organismi marini e cementocalcareo. Le dune poggiano su un
substrato geologico costituito da YYYYY di origine marina
del Pleistocene inferiore (2-0,8 milioni di anni fa); in pochi
tratti l’erosione costiera mette in evidenza il contatto tra
queste rocce e i depositi dunali sovrastanti, marcato da uno
spessore decimetrico di suolo rossastro. Aspetti botanici - La
flora del litorale è composta da circa un centinaio di specie. Sono
tipici il timo arbustivo, il ginepro coccolone, il lentisco,la
XXXXX, la gramigna
delle sabbie, il rosmarino, ecc. Il litorale di Campomarino è
caratterizzato da una chiara impronta mediterranea, data la
collocazione strettamente costiera del sito, che si mostra, per
questo, scarso di endemismi (cioè di specie che si trovano
esclusivamente sul territorio). Scarsa è anche la presenza di
esotiche, a testimonianza di un ambiente ancora abbastanza ben
conservato dal punto di vista delle specie tipiche del luogo
presenti. Tale sito costituisce uno dei pochi esempi di macchia
mediterranea ancora presente lungo la costa di Campomarino. Il
Ministero dell’Ambiente ha individuato la “Duna di
Campomarino” quale proposto Sito d’Importanza
Comunitaria (SIC). Lungo la costa di Campomarino sono presenti 1
habitat prioritario e 6 habitat di interesse comunitario. L'habitat
prioritario è rappresentato dalle dune costiere con ginepri, le cui
specie giuda sono il ginepro coccolone, il ginepro fenicio ecc.
Aspetti faunistici - La fauna non è di particolare interesse,
essendo caratterizzata per lo più da specie ubiquitarie a causa,
verosimilmente, dello stato di sofferenza dell’ecosistema e
della mancanza di corpi idrici d’acqua dolce.

mainly characterized by ubiquitous species because, presumably, the
state of suffering of the ecosystem and the lack of bodies of
freshwater.
