GeocacheAlaska! GeoFest Event Cache

This cache has been archived.

GeocacheAlaska!: While it's not quite the Epiphany, it is time to turn out the lights for the 5th Annual GeoFest. Many thanks to everyone who helped make the event happen and to those who attended to make it an event. NorthWes appears to have donated his Moun10bike, Earthcache Master, and other geocoins to the cause, so watch for them at future events as silent auction items and doorprizes. [:P] [red]Happy Holidays, everyone![/red]

  5th Annual Holiday GeoFest

Liven up the last Monday of November with a Holiday GeoFest featuring caching fellowship, a dinner buffet, games, and door prizes.  The 2010 GeocacheAlaska!, Inc., Board of Directors will be introduced and the 2009 Alaska geocoins and geopins and the 2010 calendars will be available, so you can take care of some of your Christmas shopping needs.

The room seats 120 theater style or 72 with tables, so RSVP early so we can provide chairs for everyone and have enough food to go around.  Adult and kid-friendly food will be provided for $26 and $10 (children under 12), respectively.  Premium Members of GeocacheAlaska! will receive a $3 dinner discount (one discount per membership).  Cachers may purchase a Premium Membership at the event (which will be good through 2010), download a membership form from the GeocacheAlaska! website, or pay online via PayPal or a credit card here.  Cash or check will be accepted at the door as well as PayPal and major credit cards via wireless laptop.  Dinner will include a buffet of shitake beef stroganoff, teriyaki chicken, grilled swordfish, salad, and rolls, with several choices of pizza for the junior cachers.  Beverages will include iced tea, lemonade, and hot coffee and tea.  Dessert will feature brownies and a variety of cookies.  Dress code is "Alaskan casual," so wear your favorite holiday threads and bring your reindeer antlers.

There will be games and prizes for all ages, including GEO-BINGO, which is a fun ice breaker.  To increase your fun, bring a wrapped inexpensive (under $10) cache swag item or cache container for a Chinese gift exchangeOf course, kids are welcome since these are games the whole family can play!  What better way to kick off the holiday season?

Representatives from Accupoint Inc. will attend and will bring a number of GPSs and other geocaching goodies for people to check out. Rumor has it they'll have a special gift for each attendee!

The Anchorage Responsible Beverage Retailers Association (ARBRA) prizes will also be distributed. ARBRA's Ed O'Neil procured and donated two propane grills to GeocacheAlaska! One grill will be awarded to the cacher that reported the most homeless camps and the second will be awarded via a random drawing of the names of all cachers who reported homeless camps.

The 2009 Alaska Geocoins will first make their way into geocachers hands at the GeoFest.  From left to right, top to bottom, are images of the front of the geocoin in bronze, silver, and gold relief and a representative photo of the reverse of a bronze geocoin.  Also shown is an image of the reverse side of the 2009 Alaska coinament.  More details may be found on the GeocacheAlaska! Alaska Geocoin webpage.

Let's give the Alaska Cache-n-Dash team a warm welcome, too!  This visit is an even quicker dash than usual.  It will commence around 11:30 a.m. (depending on actual flight arrival time) with brunch at Gwennies (everyone is welcome) and will wrap up at the GeoFest.  Ringleader Cent5 is leading a group of Seattle-area cachers that includes Prying Pandora and Groundspeak lackeys MissJenn, Moun10bike, and Raine.

Be sure you stay updated with any changes by placing this event on your watch list.
