Geocache Description:

A short walk through West Avon Cemetery to the grave site of Dan D. Derrin who died Mar. 30, 1898, age 85. Locate the obelisk marking his grave the cache is within 20 ft. in the tree line beyond the cemetery. "The Derrings (Derrin) built a home before 1766 in a section of West Avon..." is the only reference in a local history book to this (c. 1747) farmhouse. Little is known of the family other than they built several houses in the western part of Avon in the 18th century. The home's size and architectural details suggest that they were engaged in farming and were of modest means.

Be sure to bring a pencil. Not availible at night. Cache within 20' of the Derrin monument. No need to touch any monuments. As always be aware of surroundings and enjoy.....
