How Geocaching Works

Please note Use of geocaching.com services is subject to the terms and conditions in our disclaimer.

Geocache Description:

Don't let the fact that it's a multi put you off. There's just one stage and the final is very close to that. It will be quicker than many trads! I am sorry about the litter around here. It's a clean hide, please don't rummage around in any litter of filth. There's no need. In fact the reason why it is a multi is to ensure a clean hide.

Another Disclaimer

They say geocaching brings you to places that you would not normally go. Well I think that is certainly the case here. I garuntee not many folk venture down here. You would be forgiven for thinking "with good reason". There's a lot of litter. It's a real shame that people do this. It's also rather dilapidated. If you don't like it please say so in your log. I prefer a critical log to a dull log. So why place a cache here? Well I have brought you down here for two reasons.

Yes it's that river again.

After dissapearing at the forgotten arches the Croal returns to view. This is the once place in the middle of town (all the others are at the edge) where you can easily see it. It always interests me as I have this strange fascination with the River Croal!

The Matrix

This is something a little unusual down here. I call it the matrix, a name I made up. I have no idea why it is here. I would love to know some of its history. If you look further down the alleyway you will see several smaller ones. What it does tell us is that this is another spot that Boltonians were once very proud of, and once this area looked a lot nicer than it does today.

08/09/2014 - Update

Nearly 5 years after I set the cache it seems we may have a decent explanation. Many thanks to Matty Black for digging up this information. I'll let you read his explanation yourself in his log .

To Find the Cache

1) How many numbers are there in the matrix. Call this A.
2) Take the last 3 digits of the 4 digit date that the matrix was placed here. Call this B.
Get the cache at N 53 34 (A+690) W 2 25 (B+36)
