This cache is located at the intersection of Highways 176,15, and 45 in the unincorporated area of Wells, SC just outside of Holly Hill. It is only a short ways from I-95.
The cache is a small bison tube.
Terrain is level paved ground area about 150 feet from the roadway at the edge of the woods.
This is #32 in our "WEIRD SC" Series which will consist of caches placed at locations where either ghosts, unknown creatures, or just plain weird things have occurred or exist.
We think our State Motto should change to "Smiling Faces, Haunted Places.
Just off I-95,between Santee and Holly Hill, SC is an intersection that is spooky any time, day or night.
Once a vibrant area with enough traffic to support the business on three of the four corners there now stands a kudzu covered service station with no pumps, a pile of rubble covered in weeds and brush that was a small store, and a roadside
stand where vegetables and other items were sold that is now falling apart and in disrepair.
On the fourth corner stands a grayish white house all by itself. Currently in bad shape, anyone looking at it can tell it was once a stately Mansion belonging to someone of substantial means. It is obviously of the mid to late 1800's period and has been standing there for a long time.
Currently it is being renovated to restore it to it's former splendor. A closer inspection will reveal it has a special style and beauty all it's own; with great porticos and high, pillared columns.
But locals tell a story of a house possessed by spirits of murdered souls. The legend has it that the original residents of the old plantation house were murdered in their sleep. The father, mother and two children butchered in their beds by person(s) unknown. Their murders never solved.
It is said that persons who have lived in the house over the past 150 years have heard screams in the middle of the night; seen hovering apparitions in the bedrooms and walked into grisly, ghostly scenes reenacted in the old house.
Allegedly it was abandoned for many years and only local teens and vagrants ever entered it. All leaving promptly after seeing some horrifying scene or the other; leaving it in it's current state of dissaray.
But now, hopefully, the new owners can restore it to it's former beauty and magnifigence without the nightly grisly horror shows.
Or can they???????
