Geocache Description:

Terra Alta is a small community a half a mile high in Preston County and was at one time a noted health resort. Earlier known as Cranberry and Cranberry Summit for the extensive cranberry glades nearby, the town eventually became the center of considerable lumber and timber business. In 1911 the state created a tuberculosis sanitarium just east of TA. Now a private health facility, the sanitarium was established on a hill where the climate was judged ideal for patients in need of clean mountain air. This 4 stage tour will take you from east to west through town. You'll get some nice vistas and pass by some truly iconical mountaineer sites. If you're there around the 4th of July stop in to see the annual parade, fireworks and demolition derby. The first stop is near the entrance of Alpine Lake. Good luck! Enjoy!
