Der Bullerbach ist einer der bekanntesten Sennebäche. Sein Tal gilt als die Lebensader der Sennestadt.
Ein Gletscher der Saale-Eiszeit hat vor 200.000 Jahren mächtige Sandmassen südlich des Teutoburger Waldes abgelagert. Abschmelzvorgänge am Gletscherfuß hinterließen wasserundurchlässige, tonige Schichten. Auf und unter ihnen fließt das Grundwasser unterirdisch südwärts. Die Talkerbe des Bullerbachs schneidet eine solche Schichtung an. Hier tritt das Wasser zu Tage und begründet den Bullerbach. Nach etwa 3 km fließt er mit dem Sprungbach zusammen und bildet den Dalkebach.
Nach der Renaturierung ist wieder eine naturnahe Quelle vorhanden. Viele feuchtigkeitsliebende Pflanzen haben den Bereich sehr schnell besiedelt. Es wird aber noch einige Jahre dauern, bis die auf den Lebensraum Quelle spezialisierten Arten wieder in der Bullerbachquelle zu finden sind.
Im Herbst 2003 wurde für Besucher ein Holzsteg mit Aussichtsplattform angelegt und eine Informationstafel aufgestellt.
Zum Loggen des Caches sind zwei Aufgaben zu erfüllen:
1.) Besuche die Quelle, natürlich nur auf dem Steg (Es wäre schön, wenn du ein Bild mit dir und deinem GPS auf der Aussichtsplattform machen würdest.)
2.) Beantworte folgende Fragen per E-Mail, nicht im Logtext. Bitte warte auf die Logfreigabe.
a) Wie groß ist das Wassereinzugsgebiet des Bullerbachs?
b) Folge auf einer Landkarte dem Verlauf von Bullerbach und Dalke. In welches Meer fließt das Bullerbachwasser schließlich?
c) Auf dem Weg zur Aussichtsplattform gehst du über Stufen aus Stein und aus Holz. Wie viele Stufen sind es aus Stein und wie viele aus Holz?
d) Was ist, laut Infotafel, typisch für die Quellen der Sennebäche?
Zu manchen Jahreszeiten ist die Bullerbachquelle fast versiegt. Wenn du aber auf den befestigten Wegen zur ersten Brücke über den Bullerbach gehst, siehst du ihn im weißen Sennesand fließen.

The “Bullerbach” is one of the best-known Senne streams. It has been considered to be the life-line of Sennestadt.
200.000 years ago in the Saale Ice-Age, a glacier deposited huge masses of sand south of the Teutoburger Forest. As the ice melted at the foot of the glacier, impermeable layers of clay were left behind. Underground water flowed on and under these layers in a southerly direction. The vale of the “Bullerbach” cuts into such a layer and it is here that the stream originates and water emerges. From here the “Bullerbach” flows for 3 km before joining the “Sprungbach”, where they become the “Dalkebach”.
After the renaturation there is, once again, a relatively natural spring. Many plants which thrive in moist conditions have very quickly colonised this area. However it will take some years before specialized plants found in the areas of natural springs have colonized the source of the “Bullerbach”.
In the autumn of 2003 a viewing platform for visitors was constructed and an Info. Board erected.
To log into the cache two tasks have to be carried out:
1.) Visit the spring (Please take a photo of you and your GPS on the viewing platform.)
2.) Answer the following questions per e-mail, not in your log text:
a) How big is the catchment area of the “Bullerbach”?
b) Follow the course of the “Bullerbach” and “Dalkebach” on the map. Into which ocean does the water from the “Bullerbach” finally flow into?
c) On your way to the viewing platform you walk over many steps. How many are made of stone and how many of wood?
d) What is typical for the source of the Senne stream according to the Info. Board?
The source of the “Bullerbach” can be nearly dry in some seasons of the year. However if you walk on the made-up path to the first bridge over the “Bullerbach”, you will see the source emerging from the white Senne sand.
