Geocache Description:

Feel like time stood still at this Lavra (complex of church and cells for hermits) next to Ha'rarit

This church with a dug out grotto and complex for Catholic priest monks was started in 1967. It is based on the Larva complex build in Judea in the 4th century.

When we visited, there were 6 monks and 6 sisters from all over the world. Most speak French (from France and Belgium).

Only recently (8 months ago) they were connected to a water system. Until then they were using rain water caught in cisterns.

Recently they have built two guest rooms and are in the process of building more. These rooms are for people of any religion who would like to spend some time in silence.

With the beautiful views overlooking the sea of Gallilee and the Arbel Mountains - this would not be too difficult a task.

All the monks and sisters work - carpentry, vegetable gardening - what ever is needed.

You can visit the church and grounds from 10:00 AM to 17:00.
Services are at 6:30 in the morning and 17:45 in the evening. The public is invited.

Numbers to check on times (speak slowly in English ):
(04)678-3943
(04)678-3944

Easiest access is through Ha'rarit. Note - entrance gate to village closes at 6:00 PM. Coordinates for trail head and closest place to park are:
32o 50.815
35o 22.351

Cache is in a large spice container in a plastic bag.

Ha'rarit itself is a beautiful and interesting place to visit and stay over night. (visit link)
It was founded by a group of transcendental meditators.
