Nearby New Lount Nature Reserve is the site of a former colliery covering 19.7 ha and is leased to the Leicestershire & Rutland Wildlife Trust by Leicestershire County Council. The main operations took place between 1924 and 1968, but small-scale excavations continued until 1986. The current habitats include ponds, species-rich grassland, scrub and plantation woodland, home to a wide variety of plants and animals - worth a visit.
Cache box original contents: logbook, pencil, highlighter, winner medal, squidgy critter, star keyring, flexible plastic ruler
